Square Gateway Setup Guide

Connect Square to Advanced Billing to process credit card transactions through Square's payment platform.

Important: Square isn't available in the standard gateway picker by default. Contact Maxio to request access for your site.

Connect with Square

Advanced Billing requires you to connect with Square for Advanced Billing to communicate with your Square account.

To connect Square to Advanced Billing

1. Click Connect with Square.
2. When prompted, click Allow to grant access. Advanced Billing can then create customers, payments, and refunds on your behalf using your Square data.

After connecting, you can change the location associated with transactions.

Square customer and card handling

During sign-up, Advanced Billing creates a customer and card in Square. If the initial payment fails, Advanced Billing deletes the customer and card.

When a card is updated, Advanced Billing creates a new card for the customer in Square. If there's a past due amount that can't be successfully charged, Advanced Billing deletes the new card from Square.

Connecting test sites

When merchants connect Square to their test site, it connects to one Advanced Billing sandbox for Square that uses USD. Currencies other than USD don't work on test sites.
