Setup the AvaTax Integration

Setting up the AvaTax integration connects Maxio to your Avalara AvaTax account so Maxio can calculate, validate, and remit Sales Tax on Invoices. Most of the Maxio-side setup takes under 10 minutes once your Avalara account is active.

Important: AvaTax must be enabled for your Maxio account before you can connect it. Contact Maxio Support to have it enabled, and to get instructions for obtaining an Avalara AvaTax account if you don't already have one.

Before you start, complete the following in Avalara:

• Ensure your Avalara Company is active.
• Assign AvaTax tax codes to your taxable Items in Avalara.
• Add your nexus jurisdictions and relevant Entity Use Codes in Avalara Company Settings. If you're new to Avalara, use the AvaTax Set-Up Assistant in your Avalara dashboard to guide you through this.

To connect the AvaTax integration

1. In Maxio, go to Integrations > AvaTax.
2. Click the Settings icon to open AvaTax Integration Settings.
3. Enter your Account ID, License Key, and Company Code from Avalara.
4. Enter a Merchant Address. You need a valid Merchant Address to estimate or commit Sales Tax later.
5. Click Test to confirm Maxio is properly connected to AvaTax.

What to expect next

Once connected, sync your Items and Entity Use Codes with Avalara, and configure the rest of your tax settings, such as Commit Sales Tax mode and Address Validation.
