Maxio Payments Disputes: Second Chargeback Notification and UI
We have introduced enhanced visibility and notifications for second chargebacks (pre-arbitrations) within Maxio Payments. Merchants can now clearly distinguish between a first dispute and a second dispute, ensuring they understand when a case is final and no further rebuttal is possible. This update includes a dedicated UI indicator for second chargebacks and automated email notifications to keep you informed of these final outcomes. (Released: 19 May 2026)
- Why it matters:
Second chargebacks are automatically ruled in favor of the buyer according to card network rules, meaning merchants cannot defend them. Previously, it was difficult to distinguish these from initial disputes. This update provides clarity on dispute status, saves time by identifying cases where no action can be taken, and ensures you are immediately notified of these final decisions via email.
- Where to find it:
You can find these updates in the Disputes section of Maxio Payments. Second chargebacks will be visible within the Lost tab, and the dispute record will display a timeline of events including the initial dispute and the second chargeback date.
Maxio Payments Disputes: Second Chargeback Notification
We have introduced a new notification setting and email alert specifically for second chargebacks. This update ensures that merchants are immediately informed when a dispute is escalated to a second chargeback, which is automatically closed in the cardholder's favor per card network rules. (Released: 19 May 2026)
- Why it matters:
Second chargebacks do not permit merchant rebuttals and are considered final. By receiving a dedicated notification, you can quickly identify these cases, understand why they were closed, and take appropriate internal actions, such as resolving the matter directly with your customer, without spending time attempting a defense that is not permitted at this stage.
- Where to find it:
You can configure these alerts within your notification settings in the Maxio Payments User Settings.
Maxio Payments Surcharging: Merchant Compliance Acknowledgment
To ensure compliance with card network rules and state laws, merchant admins are now required to review and accept a compliance acknowledgment before enabling or re-enabling surcharging. This update ensures that all merchants using the Maxio Payments Surcharge Solution have explicitly confirmed their understanding of their legal and card network obligations. (Released: 19 May 2026)
- Why it matters:
Surcharging is subject to strict regulations, including requirements to only surcharge credit cards and provide clear disclosures to cardholders. By requiring this acknowledgment, Maxio helps merchants stay informed of their responsibilities, protecting both the merchant and the business from potential compliance issues.
- Where to find it:
This acknowledgment appears as a modal when you attempt to toggle on surcharging under Maxio Payments > Settings > Surcharging.
Interchange and Scheme Fee Estimator
We have introduced a new Interchange and Scheme Fee (IC & SF) estimator within your Maxio Payments surcharge settings. This tool provides a 3-month trailing average of your actual processing costs for specific card brands across different US states and territories. (Released: 19 May 2026)
- Why it matters:
To comply with regulations in certain jurisdictions, credit card surcharges cannot exceed the actual cost of acceptance. This estimator helps you make informed decisions when setting your surcharge rates by providing visibility into your average costs, ensuring you remain compliant while managing your processing expenses effectively.
- Where to find it:
You can view these estimates directly within your Surcharge Settings page.
Re-enable Temporarily Disabled Payment Profiles
Merchants and administrators can now re-enable payment profiles that were temporarily disabled for non-fraudulent reasons. This self-service capability allows you to quickly restore a customer's ability to pay after resolving underlying issues without needing to contact support. (Released: 19 May 2026)
- Why it matters:
Previously, re-enabling a payment profile required manual intervention from technical teams. This update empowers you to manage customer profiles directly, reducing delays in payment collection while maintaining protections for R29 ACH responses to protect your processing reputation.
- Where to find it:
You can manage these settings within the payment profile section of a customer's account. Look for the re-enable option on profiles that have been temporarily deactivated.
Human Security - PSP Merchant Script Accommodation
Merchants can now configure custom scripts, including CSS and JavaScript, on Public Signup Pages (PSP) and Offer Signup Pages (OSP), as well as success and receipt pages. This update ensures merchants can continue running marketing and monitoring scripts while maintaining compliance with PCI 4.0 security standards. (Released: 21 May 2026)
- Why it matters:
With the implementation of enhanced security monitoring, this feature allows you to maintain visibility into customer signup success and continue using essential tools like label translations or marketing analytics without compromising security.
- Where to find it:
These settings are available within the configuration options for Public Signup Pages (PSP) and Offer Signup Pages (OSP). To use them, navigate to the configuration settings for your signup page, locate the custom script section, enter your CSS or JavaScript, and provide the required justification for the script.
Billing Portal - Update Payment Method Outside of an Invoice
We are introducing a dedicated Payment access point within the Billing Portal header. This change allows customers to manage and update their payment profiles independently, without needing to navigate through specific invoices or subscription settings. (Released: 20 May 2026)
- Why it matters:
Previously, updating a payment method was often tied to the context of an invoice or hidden within subscription tabs. This update provides a more intuitive and direct way for users to manage their payment information at any time, ensuring billing details are always up to date with minimal effort.
- Where to find it:
The new "Payment" section is located in the header of the Billing Portal.
