Some declined payments disable a Payment Profile temporarily rather than permanently. Unlike a hard decline, a temporarily disabled Payment Profile stays linked to its subscription and can be re-enabled once the underlying issue is resolved, without needing to add a new payment method.
Certain ACH reject codes and credit card decline codes disable a Payment Profile without removing it from its subscription. This prevents Maxio from making further automatic dunning attempts against a payment method that's likely to keep failing, while leaving the door open to resume billing once the issue is fixed.
This is a separate category from the two related scenarios covered elsewhere in this section:
When a Payment Profile is temporarily disabled, dunning emails continue to notify the customer and merchant, but Maxio skips any payment attempts using that profile. On the Payment Profile itself, you'll see a message noting when it was disabled and that it was suspended.
Once you've resolved the underlying issue with the customer's bank or card, reactivate the Payment Profile so Maxio resumes automated dunning attempts against it.
To reactivate a temporarily disabled Payment Profile
This action requires sufficient account access. If the option isn't available to you, ask a merchant team member with broader account permissions to reactivate it.
For payment failures that permanently disable a Payment Profile instead, see Understand Hard Declines.
For fraud-related chargeback codes and other high-risk events that disable a Payment Profile, see Understand Automatic Payment Profile Deactivation on High-Risk Events.
