If you calculate standalone selling prices (SSPs) in a spreadsheet, store each value in a custom field on the transaction and reference that field in your SSP List formula. Advanced Revenue then allocates revenue using your numbers.

Important: Advanced Revenue is an optional module. To learn more about enabling it, contact Maxio Support.

Scenario

“We work out standalone selling prices in a spreadsheet as part of our ASC 606 process. How do we get Maxio to use those numbers when it allocates revenue across a bundled contract?”

Why standalone selling prices matter

When a contract bundles several things at one price, such as software and services, revenue rules require splitting that price by what each part would sell for on its own. Many finance teams calculate those SSPs outside their billing system and need the system to apply them consistently.

How SSP lists allocate revenue

Each SSP List item uses one of three allocation methods:

  • SSP Formula: a customizable formula determines the amount allocated to the item.
  • Amount After Carve Outs: sets the item's price after a portion has been carved out to another item.
  • Contract Residual Amount: allocates whatever remains of the contract price after other items are allocated.

Bring in an externally calculated SSP

Advanced Revenue can allocate revenue using SSPs that you calculate yourself.

To bring in an externally calculated SSP

  1. Create a custom number field on Transactions to hold the SSP.
  2. When you create each transaction, enter the SSP you calculated.
  3. In the SSP List, use the SSP Formula method and reference your custom field in the formula.
  4. Assign the SSP List to the contracts it applies to.

Review your SSP list

Download any SSP List to CSV or Google Sheets to review it or share it with auditors.
