Configure the Maxio MCP Connector

Connecting the Maxio MCP connector lets an AI client read and act on your Maxio data under a role you choose. You enable it in Advanced Billing, then finish the connection in the client itself.

Before you start

Three conditions have to be true before Maxio MCP appears under Integrations. If the option is missing, one of them is not met.

• Maxio Support has enabled the MCP feature for your Site.
• Your Site is linked to a Maxio organization. Support handles this.
• Single sign-on is enabled on your account.

Choose a role

The role decides what the AI client can reach, so pick the narrowest one that does the job. You select it partway through the setup wizard.

• Analyst - Read-only access to subscription billing. Views and exports reports on customer data, subscription metrics, and financial analytics, including MRR, ARR, churn rates, and transaction history.
• Bookkeeper - Access across Advanced Billing and Maxio Core. Creates and manages product catalogs, customer records, subscriptions, sales orders, and business reporting, but does not process payments.

Choose an MCP client

What each client supports differs, so this choice also affects which tools you can actually use.

• Quick add to Claude (Recommended) - Opens Claude's Add custom connector dialog with the connector name and Maxio MCP Server address already filled in, so you confirm in Claude instead of pasting anything.
• Claude - The most capable client, with access to every tool Maxio has built. You add the connector manually under Settings > Connectors.
• ChatGPT - More limited, with restrictions around tools that perform create actions.
• Custom MCP Client - Build your own client, or integrate an existing MCP-compatible tool.

Set up the connector

Accepting the Terms is what unlocks the setup wizard, so nothing happens until you do.

To set up the connector

1. In Advanced Billing, as an admin user, select Integrations in the left-hand navigation.

2. Select Maxio MCP.

3. Review the About MCP section and the Terms, then accept the Terms.

   

4. Select Setup Connector.

5. Under Select Role, choose the role for your AI assistant.

6. Under Select Client, choose where you want to use the connector tools. To use Claude, choose Quick add to Claude.

   

7. Follow the setup instructions shown for the client you chose.

Finish setup in your AI client

The remaining steps happen in the client, not in Maxio, so they differ by client. Claude is shown here as an example.

Claude quick add

The Add to Claude button opens Claude with the connector already named and addressed. It only prefills the form: you confirm in Claude and sign in to Maxio. You'll find the button in three places: the Quick add to Claude card in the client step of the wizard, the setup instructions for Claude, and next to Copy URL on a connector's details page.

Claude shows the connector as your organization name followed by the role, for example "Acme Inc - Reader". If the connector has no role, Claude shows the organization name alone.

To connect from Claude with Add to Claude

1. Sign in to claude.ai on a Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise plan.
2. Select Add to Claude. Claude opens the Add custom connector dialog with the name and Maxio MCP Server URL filled in.
3. Select Add and complete the OAuth authentication to authorize access.
4. Test the connection in a new conversation by asking about your Maxio data.

Claude manual setup

If you prefer not to use the button, add the connector manually from Claude's settings.

To connect from Claude manually

1. Open claude.ai on a Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise plan.
2. Go to Settings > Connectors.
3. Select Add custom connector and paste your Maxio MCP Server URL.
4. Complete the OAuth authentication to authorize access.
5. Test the connection in a new conversation by asking about your Maxio data.

ChatGPT setup

ChatGPT has no prefilled link, so you copy your Maxio MCP Server URL from the setup instructions and add it in ChatGPT yourself. The steps and the plans and permissions they require are set by OpenAI and change over time, so follow OpenAI's current instructions for adding a custom MCP app. When ChatGPT asks for the server address, paste your Maxio MCP Server URL, choose OAuth authentication, and complete the OAuth flow to link ChatGPT to your Maxio account.

What to expect

A Connection Ready! message confirms the connector was created, and Maxio shows a summary of its capabilities for the role you chose.

You can then open a new conversation in your AI client and use natural language to run the tools your role allows.

To change or revoke access later, return to Integrations > Maxio MCP and adjust the connector settings.
