Configure the Maxio MCP Connector

You can use this guide to enable the Maxio MCP connector, assign appropriate permissions, and link your preferred AI client. Once Maxio Support has enabled the feature flag, you can follow the steps below to configure the Maxio MCP.

Before enabling the connector, review Maxio MCP Security, Access, and Governance FAQ to understand access controls, data exposure, governance recommendations, and AI client considerations.

Step 1: Open the Maxio MCP Integration

1. In Maxio Advanced Billing, as an admin user, go to Integrations from the left-hand navigation.

2. Click Maxio MCP.

3. Review the About MCP section and the Terms.

4. Please accept the Terms before you continue.

   

Step 2: Start Connector Setup and Choose a Role

1. Click Setup Connector.
2. Select Role - Choose the appropriate role for your AI assistant.

Available roles

• Analyst - This role provides read-only access to Maxio's subscription billing platform, allowing users to view and export comprehensive reports on customer data, subscription metrics, and financial analytics, including MRR, ARR, churn rates, and transaction history
• Bookkeeper - This role provides comprehensive access to Maxio's Advanced Billing and Core platform tools, enabling creation and management of product catalogs, customer records, subscriptions, sales orders, and business reporting without payment processing.

Step 3: Select Your MCP Client

1. Select Client - Choose where you want to use the connector tools.
2. You will see a "Connection Ready!" message once the connector is created.

Supported clients

• Claude - currently the most robust MCP client allowing access to all of the current Tools developed by maxio

• ChatGPT - more limited in the scope that OpenAI currently supports with some limits around tools that perform create actions

• Custom MCP Client - build your own MCP client or integrate with existing MCP-compatible tools

  

Step 4: Follow Client-Specific Instructions

After selecting a client, follow the setup instructions for your AI. For example, Claude set up steps:

1. Open claude.ai and ensure you're on a Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise plan.
2. Go to Settings > Connectors.
3. Click Add custom connector and paste your Maxio MCP Server URL.
4. Complete the OAuth authentication to authorize access.
5. Test the connection in a new Claude conversation by asking about your Maxio data.

You will also see a summary of your connector capabilities based on the selected role.

Final Step: Use MCP in Your Preferred Client

You can now start a new conversation in your chosen AI client. Be sure to use natural language to run the tools your role allows. You can manage or update access at any time by returning to Integrations > Maxio MCP and adjusting the connector settings.
