Track Component Usage for a Subscription

NEW Catalog Terminology

We’re transitioning the terminology used in the Maxio Product Catalog. If you’re using the new experience, you’ll see updated naming in the application—Products are now Plans, and Components are now Products.
Our documentation is still being updated, so you may see previous terminology (especially in screenshots); refer to these definitions for the most accurate interpretation.

You can view detailed component usage history for a Subscription directly from the Subscription’s component details page. This allows you to review historical allocations, usage activity, and billing-related changes for metered and prepaid components in Advanced Billing.

Please be aware that this help article is related to Advanced Billing's Component Allocations functionality. In order for Advanced Billing to add charges for a subscriber’s components, you must report to Advanced Billing the component’s status/amount. You can learn more about Component Allocations by checking out this help article: Component Allocations Overview.

To view a component’s history:

  1. Navigate to the desired Subscription.
  2. Locate the component under Component Details.
  3. Click Actions > View History.

The exact button text may vary depending on the component type. For example, metered components display usage history specific to reported quantities.

Metered component usage history

View the past month’s usage for a component by selecting View Usage History.

If the Subscription belongs to a Subscription Group using consolidated invoicing, mid-period component allocation charges that are accrued to the next billing period appear on the next consolidated group invoice. Charges marked to be charged immediately generate standalone invoices. For more information, refer to the Subscription Groups Overview article.

Prepaid Component History

For prepaid components, the history clearly distinguishes between:

  • Prepaid, newly purchased allocations
  • Used, units recorded against available allocations

This distinction helps you track allocation purchases and consumption over time.

Prepaid component usage history showing used and prepaid quantities

Prepaid history separates purchased allocations and used units. In this example, 10 allocations were purchased and 12 units were used in total.

This article applies to Advanced Billing’s Component Allocations functionality. To ensure charges are added correctly, you must report the component’s quantity or status to Advanced Billing.
