Stripe is a subscription management and PCI-compliant credit card/ACH payment processor. With Stripe, sensitive customer and payment information is protected at Stripe. The Maxio Platform/Stripe integration architecture is designed to address a number of different payment workflows.
This integration option is for those using Stripe as a Subscription Management solution. That is, you have integrated Stripe into your own subscription application.
From Maxio Platform, you need revenue reporting and/or analytics on those subscriptions managed in Stripe.
Using both Stripe 1Way and Stripe for e-Bill/e-Payments
There are two available Stripe integrations for Maxio Platform:
- Stripe 1Way - pulls invoice information from a Stripe account where you manage Subscriptions and Invoices directly in Stripe.
- Stripe for e-Bill/e-Payments - uses a Stripe account to let your Customers pay Maxio Platform Invoices that are generated, managed, and emailed directly from Maxio Platform.
Important: Stripe 1Way can be used together with Stripe for e-Bill/e-Payments. However, you cannot use the same Stripe account for both. You must use a separate Stripe account for receiving payments against Maxio Platform-generated Invoices than the one you use to manage Subscriptions in Stripe 1Way.
Key capabilities
- One-way sync of Plans, Customers, and Invoices from a connected Stripe account into Maxio Platform, generating Transactions and Revenue from the synced Invoice data.
- Optional sync of Stripe Payments, Refunds, and Deposits into Maxio Platform, and on to a connected GL such as QuickBooks.
- Automatic use of a designated Non-Plan Item for any Stripe Invoice or Invoice Line Item that isn't tied to a Plan, so Transactions and Revenue still get created.
What syncs
Maxio Platform pulls Plans, Customers, and Invoices from Stripe, and builds Transactions and Revenue from that data. Payments, Refunds, and Deposits are optional. See Understand Stripe 1Way Sync Steps and Stripe 1Way Data Mapping for exactly what syncs and how.
Prerequisites
- A Stripe account where your Subscriptions and Invoices are managed, separate from any Stripe account used for Stripe for e-Bill/e-Payments.
- A designated Non-Plan Item in Maxio Platform, used for any Stripe Invoice or Invoice Line Item that isn't tied to a Plan.
Customer responsibilities
- Managing Subscriptions, Plans, and Invoices in Stripe. Maxio Platform only reflects what Stripe sends.
- Keeping the Non-Plan Item and Default Register settings accurate for how your Stripe data should be recorded.
Limitations
- Sync is one-directional, from Stripe to Maxio Platform only. Maxio Platform cannot create or modify Subscriptions, Invoices, or Plans in Stripe.
- A Stripe payment that is not made against an Invoice never syncs to Maxio Platform.
- Data from the Stripe Subscription object itself doesn't sync directly. Only the Invoices and Payments it produces do.
If you process corporate or purchasing cards through Stripe, see Understand Stripe Level 2 and Level 3 Processing for the extra line-item data those cards require.
When a sync doesn't produce the records you expect, see Troubleshoot Stripe 1Way and FAQs.
