eWAY Rapid 3.1 Gateway Setup Guide
Last updated on Aug 24, 2026
Connect eWAY Rapid 3.1 to Advanced Billing to process credit card transactions through eWAY's Rapid API.
Important: Advanced Billing has two eWAY Rapid 3.1 variants. The legacy variant is deprecated. New sites can't select it, and it only continues working for sites that already had it configured, supporting a single currency. The current variant isn't available in the standard gateway picker by default and supports multiple currencies. Contact Maxio to request access for your site.
API key and password
To create an API key
- If you don't already have an eWAY account, log in to your partner portal account.
- If you need a sandbox account, go to Resources > Sandbox/Testing and click Request Sandbox, then go to the sandbox for your country: Australia or New Zealand. Skip this step if you already have a sandbox account.
- Go to My Account > User Security > Create User and complete the form. If you're creating a sandbox user, you can use the same email address and password as your main sandbox account.
- Click Actions next to the new user, then View API Key. This is your new API key and password for accessing Rapid API.
Note: In many Rapid 3.0 transparent redirect API modules and sample code, the API Key field is named Username. Use your API key, not your email address, for Rapid API.
Requirements
- For eWAY Rapid 3.1 to function properly, you must submit a billing address with every signup. Set the billing address as required in your Advanced Billing product setup.
- To enable refunds, enable Rapid API Refunds inside MYeWAY.
