The credit or charge a Plan change, upgrade, or downgrade produces depends on the Plan and Product parameters involved. The tables below cover every combination.
For the full procedures, see Change a Subscription's Plan and Upgrade or Downgrade a Subscription.
A non-prorated Plan change never credits or charges the Subscription in the current period, regardless of Plan or Product parameters:
| Plan Parameters | Product Parameters | Credit Original Plan in Current Period? | Charge New Plan in Current Period? | Credit Original Product in Current Period? | Recharge Product in Current Period? |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| New Plan, Same Family | Product has its own Billing Interval | No | No | No | No |
| New Plan, Same Family | Product uses Plan's Billing Interval | No | No | No | No |
| New Plan, Different Family | Product has its own Billing Interval | No | No | No | No |
| New Plan, Different Family | Product uses Plan's Billing Interval | No | No | No | No |
| Same Plan, New Price Point | Product has its own Billing Interval | No | No | No | No |
| Same Plan, New Price Point | Product uses Plan's Billing Interval | No | No | No | No |
An upgrade always credits the original Plan and charges the new one; whether the Product itself is also credited and recharged depends on its billing interval and Product Family:
| Plan Parameters | Product Parameters | Credit Original Plan in Current Period? | Charge New Plan in Current Period? | Credit Original Product in Current Period? | Recharge Product in Current Period? |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| New Plan, Same Family | Product has its own Billing Interval | Yes | Yes | No | No |
| New Plan, Same Family | Product uses Plan's Billing Interval | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| New Plan, Different Family | Product has its own Billing Interval | Yes | Yes | No | No |
| New Plan, Different Family | Product uses Plan's Billing Interval | Yes | Yes | Yes | No |
| Same Plan, New Price Point | Product has its own Billing Interval | Yes | Yes | No | No |
| Same Plan, New Price Point | Product uses Plan's Billing Interval | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
The same pattern applies to a downgrade: the original Plan is always credited and the new one always charged, with the Product-level credit and recharge again depending on its billing interval and Product Family:
