Maxio Invoice and Taxwire Transaction Sync

Maxio synchronizes invoice, void, and refund activity with Taxwire when the invoice includes Taxwire tax. This keeps Taxwire reporting aligned with invoice activity in Maxio.
How Maxio identifies Taxwire transactions
Maxio uses deterministic transaction identifiers so related invoice, void, and refund activity can reference the same record in Taxwire.
- Issued invoices use this reference ID format:
<invoice_uid> - Full refunds use this reference ID format:
<invoice_uid>:refund - Partial refunds, credits, and partial voids use this reference ID format:
<invoice_uid>:refund:<credit_note_uid> - Every refund transaction links back to the original invoice transaction in Taxwire.
Supported invoice activity
Maxio exports supported invoice activity when Taxwire tax is present on the invoice. The supported activity depends on the invoice workflow and the type of downstream transaction.
- Invoice issued: If the invoice includes Taxwire tax, Maxio exports the invoice to Taxwire as a finalized transaction.
- Invoice voided: If the invoice was exported to Taxwire, Maxio enqueues an invoice void job. A full void marks the original Taxwire transaction as void rather than deleting it.
- Refund success: Maxio enqueues a Taxwire refund export job. A refund of the full invoice total creates a full refund transaction in Taxwire, and a smaller refund creates an itemized, proportional refund transaction.
Sync start date
If you set Start syncing transactions from in the Taxwire settings, invoices dated before that date are taxed as usual but aren't sent to Taxwire. A void or refund of an invoice that was already sent still syncs, even if you later move the date past it.
Subscription groups
Taxwire sync for subscription groups is coming soon.
Voids and refunds
For invoice-centric billing sites, Maxio responds to downstream invoice activity with Taxwire export jobs.
- Voids and refunds are synchronized to Taxwire so reports stay accurate.
- Full voids mark the original Taxwire transaction as void.
- Partially paid voids can create a Taxwire refund transaction for the voided amount.
- Successful refund activity enqueues a Taxwire refund export job.
- Retries are idempotent: a retried void or refund export doesn't create a duplicate record in Taxwire.
Reconciliation
Review Taxwire reference IDs, jurisdiction breakdowns, tax amounts, and provider-side transaction logs to reconcile Maxio invoices with Taxwire.
