Migrate payment tokens to Maxio Payments so existing customer Payment Profiles can continue billing without customers re-entering their payment details. Review the migration timeline, setup requirements, gateway export process, billing address considerations, and limitations for Apple Pay and Google Pay tokens.
A payment token migration transfers existing customer Payment Profiles from a prior payment gateway to Maxio Payments.
Your assigned Maxio Payments Specialist manages the process from start to finish. The migration helps customers continue billing without re-entering their payment details.
The full migration process can take up to 60 days. The timeline depends mostly on how quickly your prior gateway provides the data to Maxio.
After the export is requested, Maxio typically completes its portion of the process within 30 days. The number of Payment Profiles and the completeness of the data from your prior gateway also affect the timeline.
Your Payments Specialist provides a more specific estimate after confirming the scope of your migration.
Migration starts after your Maxio account is fully set up and live. The following requirements must be complete before migration begins:
Your onboarding team confirms when these requirements are complete. Onboarding and migration happen sequentially, not at the same time.
Maxio Payments requires billing address information to optimize processing fees.
Some payment gateways do not collect billing address data. Missing billing address data can affect how many Payment Profiles transfer successfully.
Your Payments Specialist reviews the available billing address data early in the process and sets expectations for the migration.
After the setup requirements are complete, your Payments Specialist provides a template to request an export from your prior gateway.
The prior gateway sends the file directly to Maxio through a secure file transfer. The file does not pass through your hands, as required by PCI compliance standards.
Maxio processes the data, creates the new payment tokens, and maps them to your existing Payment Profiles.
Your Payments Specialist keeps you informed throughout the process and works with you to resolve any Payment Profiles that do not migrate successfully on the first pass.
Migration is complete after as many Payment Profiles as possible are successfully transferred to Maxio Payments.
Some Payment Profiles may not migrate successfully because of incomplete token data or card issuer declines. These customers continue to be billed through the prior gateway with their existing token until their payment method is updated on the Maxio Payments gateway.
The prior gateway remains active during this transition period. Your Payments Specialist decommissions the prior gateway after confirming that all outstanding tokens are resolved.
Your onboarding team coordinates this transition with you and keeps you informed of progress.
Apple Pay and Google Pay tokens cannot be migrated from a prior gateway.
Apple Pay and Google Pay generate device-based tokens that are unique to the customer's device and wallet. These tokens cannot be extracted or transferred like standard card tokens.
Customers whose payment method was created through Apple Pay or Google Pay need to re-enter their payment details if they need to pay through Maxio Payments.
Work with your Payments Specialist to confirm your migration scope, review available payment data, and complete the export request with your prior gateway.
