Applies to: Advanced Billing · Maxio Payments

Last updated on Oct 5, 2026

Google Pay lets Customers pay with a card saved to their Google account instead of typing card details. With Advanced Billing and the Maxio Payments gateway, you can offer Google Pay on Self-Service Pages, Public Signup Pages, Invoice Pages, the Billing Portal, and your own Maxio.js forms.

Before you begin

To use Google Pay, your site must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Use Advanced Billing.
  • Use the Maxio Payments gateway. Google Pay isn't available with any other gateway.
  • Have Multi-Gateway enabled, so you can route Google Pay payments to Maxio Payments.
  • Use Relationship Invoicing.

Google Pay accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover cards. Unlike Apple Pay, it isn't limited to one browser. The Google Pay button appears only when Google Pay reports that the Customer's browser and Google account can pay.

Turn on Google Pay

Turning on Google Pay takes a request to Maxio Support, then two settings changes in Advanced Billing.

To turn on Google Pay

  1. Contact Maxio Support and request that Google Pay be enabled for your site.
  2. Navigate to the Configure Maxio Payments Settings page and turn on the Google Pay toggle under Payment Types.
  3. Navigate to the Edit Payment Routing page and set Maxio Payments as the gateway for Google Pay payments.
  4. Complete a test payment to confirm Google Pay works as expected.

Where customers can use Google Pay

After you turn on Google Pay, Customers can choose it on the following pages:

When a Customer selects Google Pay, Google's own payment sheet opens. The Customer chooses a card there, and the payment method is saved without them typing a card number.

Test Google Pay

When your site is in test mode, Maxio.js loads Google Pay in Google's test environment. Google Pay returns test card details there, so you can run through checkout without charging a real card. Outside test mode, Google Pay runs in its live environment and charges the card the Customer chooses.

To turn on Apple Pay, the other digital wallet Maxio Payments supports, see Enable Apple Pay.

Existing Google Pay payment methods can't be moved to Maxio Payments from another gateway. See Migrate Payment Tokens to Maxio Payments.
