Understand Auto-Renewal

Auto-Renewal starts a new term for a Term Subscription automatically, without you having to renew it manually each time. Its Auto-Renewal Profile, Lock-in Date, and Renewal Factor settings let you standardize how renewals behave. If you need more flexibility per renewal, a Scheduled Renewal is a good alternative.

• Hands-free management: Renewals happen automatically, without manual intervention each term.
• Lock-in Date: Prevents modifications to the next Subscription term after a certain point, so the upcoming renewal stays predictable.
• Renewal Factor: Applies a price uplift on renewal automatically, so revenue grows without a manual price change.

When to use auto-renewal

Auto-Renewal works well for:

• Long-term customer retention: Subscription configurations that rarely change between terms.
• Standardized pricing models: Customers who are comfortable renewing at pre-set rates.
• Low-touch customer management: Reducing manual renewal tasks while keeping revenue consistent.

How auto-renewal works at renewal

When a Subscription term ends, Auto-Renewal starts a new one with the same Products and Components. At every renewal, Advanced Billing converts the Subscription's Products and Components to Custom Pricing scoped to that Subscription (see Understand How Custom Pricing Works), whether or not a Renewal Factor is set. If a Renewal Factor is set, it's applied as the price adjustment on the new Custom Price.

Because the pricing becomes custom at renewal, future catalog price changes on the Plan or Product no longer apply to this Subscription automatically.
