Use the RevenueBooks Comparison Report to see how Scheduled Revenue, Deferred Revenue, and Unbilled AR differ between two RevenueBooks for the same period and Registers. It's a book-to-book variance report, not a single-book summary — use it when you need to quantify the impact of recognizing revenue under one RevenueBook (for example, a legacy or GAAP-adjusted book) instead of another.
Important: This report requires Advanced Revenue Recognition to be enabled on your account, and at least two RevenueBooks configured to compare. It's also gated behind a separate account setting; if you don't see it under Finance Reports, ask your Maxio contact to enable the RevenueBooks Comparison Report.
Go to Reports > Add Report > Finance Reports > RevenueBooks Comparison to open the report builder. This report includes the following configuration options.
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Primary Book | The first of the two RevenueBooks to compare. Its values appear on the report's A rows. |
| Compared To | The second RevenueBook to compare. Its values appear on the report's B rows. Must be different from Primary Book — Maxio blocks saving the report otherwise. |
| Registers | Select one or more Registers. If none are selected, all are included. |
| Currency Presentation | Choose Home Currency or Local Currency. Only appears if multicurrency is enabled in your account. |
| Date Range | Select fixed Custom Dates or from one of the date range options. |
| Periodicity | Choose Monthly, Quarterly, or Yearly columns within the Date Range. The report also adds a cumulative Full Range column for the entire period. |
| Output Format | Choose Table or a chart type. Stacked Vertical Bar Chart is recommended; Line, Vertical Bar, Horizontal Bar, and Stacked Horizontal Bar charts are also available. Each RevenueBook renders as its own series (or, for a stacked chart, one series per RevenueBook and Account). |
Unlike most Finance Reports, RevenueBooks Comparison doesn't offer a Group By, Item/Account filter, or Revenue and Invoice Filters setting — grouping is fixed to the Income, Liability, and Asset Accounts described below.
The report displays three sections, each broken out by Account and totaled per period:
| Section | Grouped by | What it shows |
|---|---|---|
| Scheduled Revenue | Income Account | Recognized revenue for the period. |
| Deferred Revenue | Liability Account | The Deferred Revenue balance as of the end of the period. |
| Unbilled AR | Asset Account | The Unbilled AR balance as of the end of the period. |
Within each section, every Account shows three rows:
Click any linked cell to drill into that Account and period. The drilldown opens a Rollforward Report filtered to that Account and RevenueBook, since the Comparison report itself only shows Account-level totals, not individual Transactions or Contracts.
RevenueBooks Comparison isn't the only RevenueBooks-related report — pick the one that matches your question:
