The Create Customer form includes the following fields. Most fields accept up to 255 characters; Tax ID accepts up to 40 characters, CC Emails accepts up to 1024 characters, and Shipping Address 1/2/3 each accept up to 500 characters.
| Option | Description |

| Organization | Specify the name of company or organization of the customer. (Required) instead of Primary Contact First Name and Last Name if Maxio Platform is enabled for your Site. |
| Reference ID | Specify a unique reference ID for the customer. Reference IDs aren't case sensitive, and must be unique across all Customers on your site. Two Customers can't share the same reference ID. |
| Business Type | The customer's business classification: B2B (Business-to-Business), B2G (Business-to-Government), or B2C (Business-to-Consumer). |
| Primary Contact First Name | Specify the first name of the customer. This is the first name noted on the subscription. (Optional) if Maxio Platform is enabled for your Site. |
| Primary Contact Last Name | Specify the last name of the customer. (Optional) if Maxio Platform is enabled for your Site. |
| Primary Contact Email | Specify the email address for your customer. |
| Primary Contact Phone | Provide a phone number for a customer. |
| CC Emails | Add additional email addresses for your customer. Any CC emails included here receive a copy of all associated communications for the subscription, including statements, receipts, cancellation confirmations, and dunning notices. Add as many CC email addresses as needed. CC'd addresses don't receive Billing Portal-related emails, including invitations, even once Billing Portal access is enabled. | Salesforce ID | The Salesforce record ID associated with this customer. Only shown if your site has a Salesforce integration enabled. |
| Default Auto-Renewal Profile | Set the default renewal behavior for this customer's subscriptions, including whether they auto-renew and when renewal invoices are generated (for example, 1 week or 1 month in advance, or upon expiration). Only shown if auto-renewals are enabled for your site. |
| Shipping Address 1/2/3 | Specify the street address(es) for the customer's shipping location. |
| Shipping Country | Specify the shipping country for the customer. |
| Shipping State | Specify the shipping state for the customer. |
| Shipping City | Specify the shipping city for the customer. |
| Shipping Zip Code | Specify the shipping postal or zip code for the customer. |
| Tax ID | Select the customer's Country, then enter their Tax ID. You can validate the Tax ID to confirm it's currently registered. Once validated, Maxio shows the validation status and the date it was last validated. See Set Up Managed Sales Tax for more information about taxes. |
| Tax Exempt | Setting the customer as tax exempt results in no taxes being assessed on any of their subscriptions. See Set Up Tax Exempt Customers for more information. |
| eInvoicing Network/Format | Select the eInvoicing network and document format used for this customer's electronic invoices. Only shown if eInvoicing is enabled for your site. |
| Branding Theme | Select a Branding Theme to control how this customer's invoices and other documents are branded. Only shown if Branding Themes are enabled for your site. |
| Tax Exempt Reason | Select the reason this customer is tax exempt. Only shown if your site manages its own Avalara account. |
| Language | Select the customer's language, which sets the default language and localization used on invoices and communications. Only shown if your site uses Invoice-Centric Billing. |
| Verified for ACH/eCheck Payments | Select whether this customer must verify their bank account before making ACH/eCheck payments. If required, they enter their bank details via the Understand Self-Service Pages. ACH guidelines put the responsibility on you, the merchant, to know your customer well enough to trust them to enter valid bank account info. Enable ACH payments only for customers you trust. See Verify a customer for eCheck (ACH/EFT) for more information. Only shown if ACH/eCheck verification is required for your site's gateway. |
| Surcharging | Turn Surcharging on or off for this customer. When enabled, applicable surcharges may be applied to their payments. Only shown if Surcharging is enabled for your site. |
