Applies to: Maxio, Stripe Integration
Credit card statement descriptors for payments made through Maxio e-Bills are managed by Stripe, not by Maxio. You edit the descriptor in Stripe's own settings, and the change then applies to charges Stripe processes on your behalf.
Edit the descriptor from Stripe's Business Settings. For a step-by-step, see Stripe's documentation on statement descriptors.
As a PCI-compliant payment processor, Stripe is solely responsible for storing all bank and credit card information and the logistics of securing payments from your customers. Maxio's role in the payment function is to handle everything else: generate and send e-Bills, provide collections/AR aging reports, and post payments and deposits from Stripe to your general ledger.
Therefore, how credit card charges populate on your customers' credit card statements is under the purview of Stripe (not Maxio).
The statement descriptor is what your customer sees on their card statement. When it does not resemble your company name, customers who do not recognize the charge are more likely to dispute it — so a clear descriptor reduces chargebacks that would otherwise reach you as disputed payments.
