Certain conditions cause a complete QuickBooks Online sync failure. These errors are broad: they block the entire sync rather than pointing to one specific step or record.
If your sync completes but individual records fail, the error belongs to one record rather than the connection. Find it in the table below.
| If you see... | See this article |
|---|---|
| Invoices failing to sync, with a mix of causes | QuickBooks Online Invoice Sync Errors |
| A field exceeds the QuickBooks Online character limit | Character Limit Exceeded |
| A name already exists in QuickBooks Online | Duplicate Name Exists |
| A customer's email address format is rejected | Invalid Email Address Format |
| An item has no income account associated with it | There is no income account associated with the item |
| Customers fail to update because an object isn't found | Object Not Found When Updating Customers |
| A payment fails to sync because an object isn't found | Payment Sync Error: Object Not Found |
| The accounting period is closed and can't be updated | Account Period Closed, Cannot Update Through Services API |
| A transaction references an account that was deleted | Invalid Reference Id: Account Assigned to This Transaction Has Been Deleted |
"An error was encountered while attempting to communicate with QuickBooks Online. Please try again."
This message appears when Maxio can't complete a request to Intuit's QuickBooks Online servers, most often because of a dropped connection or a timeout. Check QuickBooks Online Status for known Intuit outages. Wait 15 to 30 minutes and sync again. Contact support@maxio.com if the sync still fails after 2 hours.
Intuit's connected-app authorization for Maxio can lapse if your account goes about a month without syncing. When that happens, Maxio shows an authentication-error banner instead of the general communication error above:
"Received an authentication error from QuickBooks Online. You may need to reconnect your Maxio account to QuickBooks Online to sync again."
Select Reconnect directly in that banner to disconnect and reconnect QuickBooks Online. This requires Admin access in Maxio, but you don't need Maxio Support to restore the connection. If you'd rather start from the integration settings page instead, use the same steps in Setup QuickBooks Online. For the related "app already purchased" error some accounts see in this situation, see QuickBooks Online: App Already Purchased Error.
"No destination found for given partition key errorCode=007001; statusCode=400"
This is a fault response from Intuit's servers, unrelated to any specific record. Disconnect and reconnect QuickBooks Online using the same steps in Setup QuickBooks Online.
"An unexpected issue occurred while communicating with QuickBooks Online. Please try again."
Maxio shows this generic message for a QuickBooks Online fault code it doesn't specifically handle, or for any other unhandled error encountered during the sync. Wait 15 minutes, since that's often enough time for a transient Intuit-side condition to clear, and try the sync again. If a second attempt also fails, disconnect and reconnect QuickBooks Online (see Setup QuickBooks Online) and contact support@maxio.com if you get the same message after reconnecting.
